April 2012

So a whole bunch has happened in the past 2 years as I suspect is true for anyone. The children and I moved to the USA in December 2010 from Sweden. At first we moved to Utah and lived with my mother and her husband, but that didn't work out. So we moved to Ohio and moved in with my dad and his wife in February 2011. We've been here since then.

Vidar, who was diagnosed with PDD-NOS in Sweden, was also diagnosed with separation anxiety here in Ohio.  He was full of anxiety when it came to going to school so we homeshooled for the first 9 months or so until he got enough help from his therapist and the medicines. Now he has been in school for almost 2 months and seems to enjoy it. He's new at school work and stuff so we do not expect his grades to be great and are just happy that he is able to go there without any anxiety. Not a surprise at all but he's got an A in Math. :) He also has a best friend in the neighborhood and spends a lot of his time over at Brenden's house. They play a lot of video games together along with playing outside. Vidar broke his thumb on Easter sunday this year when he fell off his bicycle.

Freja has LOVED kindergarten and has gone since the fall last year. She says the only boring part is computer lab. She likes her teacher and her classmates, and she enjoys riding the bus to and from school. She seems to have problems with one of her ears and she says it keeps hurting her. We've just found her a girl in the neighborhood who is her age and they seem to get along at least. Hopefully they can become good friends.

Magne is still our little motorhead/gearhead. He loves his vehicles. He'll be starting preschool in this fall and seems excited about it.

All of our children have really grown and thrived here in Ohio, so I feel we made the right decision in regards to moving to the USA. Sweden has passed some strict laws regarding homeschooling, making it practically illegal. The school personnel and government do not know much about how the autism spectrum functions and it is not too uncommon that children get removed from their families due to this misunderstanding, because they do not realize that that is how the children are and think the parents are the cause of the child's problem.

Okay I have to stop here for now.
